To say the film is Wes Anderson gone Polish would be an overstatement, though not completely inaccurate. Obviously he’s been a great influence to the film’s director Zuzanna Slawinska. Story itself centers around Albert who’s bullied at school and avoids social interactions with the girls. His only friend is a tortoise. He finds inspiration from the animal kingdom and starts behaving like an alpha male in order to stop the bullying and get the girl.
Hardly anyone expects an action thriller to be as moving as The Foreigner. There are tons to choose from that begin with the exact same inciting incident – protagonist’s loved ones get killed. Often they even waste unnecessary time so that the audience can grow attached to the soon-to-be-deceased and relate more strongly to the main character. However. Jackie Chan will break your heart from the get go.
